For the LOVE of ART dinner
The Foundation held a gala fundraising dinner, For the Love of Art on Saturday August 25th. Over two hundred guests joined host Jonathan Biggins to support the Newcastle Art Gallery and its outstanding visual art collection. Guests enjoyed music by Fish Fry and food by Harvest & Soul in the newly-reopened Newcastle City Hall.
The event’s success was made possible by the generosity of many: the dinner’s major supporter Bvlgari, the many businesses and artists who contributed items for auctions and balloon prizes, and of course the many Foundation members and guests who joined us on the night. This sold-out event raised almost fifty thousand dollars in support of the gallery.
Our open auction on the evening, conducted by Jason Maxwell, saw generous bids for three items: a magnificent pink gold, onyx and mother of pearl Pinctada Maxima necklace donated by Bulgari Sydney; a one-week holiday in a French barn conversion with a travel voucher courtesy of Newcastle Travel; and the Anne von Bertouch Julio Santos bowl.
Fifteen artists with connections to the city and the Gallery, including former Archibald and Kilgour prize winners, donated artworks for auction, and many artists joined us on the night. We are grateful to Michael Bell, Dallas Bray, Dino Consalvo, Lotti Consalvo, James Drinkwater, Ben Kenning, Nigel Milsom, Jane Lander, Brett McMahon, Peter Gardiner, Jo O’Toole, John Earle, Liam Power and David Middlebrook for their support of the Foundation and the Gallery.
We hope that everyone who joined us had a wonderful evening celebrating the love of art.
